About Us

We need your assistance in creating change, specifically in the lives of indigent people in need of legal assistances. In San Bernardino, we have numerous people facing foreclosure, eviction, and family law issues. The economic group that qualifies for our services is burgeoning. The dramatic surge that we have witnessed in the past few years in petitions for guardianships of minor children by grandparents, family friends, and neighbors serves as a barometer of the fractured family life. The ravages of parental drug abuse, the “disposable children” syndrome, illiteracy, and the lack of parental skills and parental commitment are taking a great toll on the social health of our nation.  We need your dedication and assistance in serving the community.  Participate in the effort in one of the following ways:
CommunityVolunteers can acquire valuable office experience at Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino which is a registered and certified 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the indigent population in San Bernardino County. We provide legal assistance related to family law matters including divorce, child custody and support, guardianships, and unlawful detainers. We also provide advice on numerous other legal questions. As a volunteer you will gain office experience in a legal field which is a valuable attribute to put on your resume. You will gain experience using office equipment, computer programs, and contribute to the teamwork that is promoted at Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino.

Professional Attorney Volunteers are welcome to donate services at any of our six offices, we have flexible hours. This is an excellent way to gain valuable experience for beginning attorneys and a way for experienced attorneys to give back to the community. You can help by answering questions clients may have and giving them advice about the course of action they may pursue.  Attorneys conduct client interviews, communicate for the clients, and represent clients in court. We need your help at any level you wish to give, it is always appreciated. The benefits of volunteering as a Professional Attorney includes: meeting recommended ABA provisions for pro bono work, networking with other attorneys in different specialties, and becoming a mentor to students in college or law school with similar career goals.

Law/High School Students can intern year round at Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino. As a volunteer, you will work under the direction of experienced and knowledgeable attorneys, paralegals, and office staff. You will assist with client interviews, prepare and type legal documents, and many other tasks. Students can complete hours as required by their school or may negotiate weekly hours upon being accepted to the program. Our hours are flexible and we are willing to work with your schedule because between school, homework and a job, we understand your need for flexibility. Benefits of volunteering in our office include: meeting educational volunteer or community service requirements, obtaining work experience, meeting other students with similar interests, making professional contacts with attorneys and other adults. Most importantly, students find a sense of fulfillment and achievement that cannot be measured by grades and discover the reality of a legal career field before joining the workforce.

We like to thank all the people that have volunteered or are currently volunteering at Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino. Without your assistances we would not have continued to achieve the success we have had in assisting the community.
