Volunteers
  • We need your assistance in helping the poor and socially entrapped—those who lack the resources and education to protect or defend themselves…

  • We need your assistance in creating change, specifically in the lives of people in need…

  • Join the efforts at the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino

  • In San Bernardino, we have numerous people facing foreclosure, eviction and other losses. The economic group that qualifies for our services is burgeoning. The dramatic surge that we have witnessed in the past few years in petitions for guardianships of minor children by grandparents, family friends, and neighbors serves as a barometer of fractured family life. The ravages of parental drug abuse, the “disposable children” syndrome, illiteracy, and the lack of parental skills and parental commitment are taking a great toll on the social health of our nation.

  • We find this poor-to-working-class clientele that we serve at the clinic to be nearly as intelligent and capable as the more “successful” social strata of our society. They are simply less educated and aspirational. They represent a culture that has largely ceased to be the dreamers, innovators and risk-takers of America’s past—but is now a more complacent and commercial culture of individuals who rarely ascribe to idealism and the American dream.

  • Become a Volunteer Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino is a registered and certified 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the indigent population in San Bernardino County. We provide assistance with a variety of mostly family law matters including divorce, child custody and support, guardianships, unlawful detainers in addition to providing advice on numerous other legal questions.

  • Attorneys Volunteers are welcome to donate services at any of our six offices, we have flexible hours. You can help by answering questions clients may have and giving them advice about courses of action they may pursue, conducting client interviews, making necessary phone calls and representing clients in court. We need your help at any level you wish to give, it is always appreciated.

  • Students We welcome students in high school, college, and law school as interns year round. As volunteers, you will work under the direction of experienced and knowledgeable attorneys. You will assist with client interviews, preparing and typing legal documents and many other tasks.

  • Students can complete hours as required by their school or may negotiate weekly hours upon hiring. Our hours are flexible and we are willing to work with your schedule because between school, homework and a job, we understand your need for flexibility. Students or community members are always welcome.

  • Student benefits of volunteering in our office include meeting educational volunteer or community service requirements, obtaining work experience, meeting other students with similar interests, making professional contacts with attorneys and other adults. MOST IMPORTANTLY, STUDENTS FIND A SENSE OF FULFILLMENT AND ACHIEVEMENT THAT CANNOT BE MEASURED BY GRADES AND DISCOVER THE REALITY OF AN INTENDED CAREER FIELD BEFORE JOINING THE WORKFORCE.

  • Professionals Lawyers, paralegals, and other legal professional also benefit from volunteering in our office. Such benefits include meeting recommended ABA provisions for pro bono work, networking with other attorneys in different specialties, and becoming a mentor to students in college or law school with similar career goals. MOST OF ALL FINDING FULFILLMENT IN HELPING THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD OR UNDERSTAND THEIR RIGHTS WITHIN THE LEGAL SYSTEM.
